Bernard D. Comstock, 92, of Nichols, N.Y., passed away peacefully on March 9,2024,
following a brief period of declining health.
Bernard was born in his family farmhouse in Herrickville, PA, on December 21, 1931. He was the son
of Harry and Effie Stephens Comstock. He was a graduate of Athens High School Class of 1949. He was
employed by IBM Owego, NY for 31 years as Associate Program Office Specialist. He was a member of
Epiphany Parish in Sayre and a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Athens.
He coached Little League baseball and enjoyed bowling, having won one Evening Times Doubles
Tournament. He also enjoyed playing softball, being known for his fastball pitching. In his retirement he
enjoyed golfing with his friends and he was a passionate Notre Dame fan.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Linda (Michael) Merritt, Glenda ( Harland)
Brown, Karen Hunter, sons, Charles (Kristin) and Edward (Gwynne) Comstock, as well as his 17
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friend,
Sister Anne Quigley.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Donna
Stillman Comstock . Together they shared cherished memories vacationing in Vermont and touring New
England. He was also predeceased by brothers, Harry and Donald Comstock; sister, Marie Comstock,
son-in-law Dwight Hunter and special uncle, Thayer Stephens.
A private graveside service will be held at Tioga Point
Cemetery, Athens, PA. at the convenience of the family.
