George Brenton Gowan

George Brenton Gowan Sr, 83, a lifetime resident of Athens, PA died Tuesday June 11, 2019 following an extended illness.

The youngest of 7 children George was born on September 17, 1935 in Athens, PA to Allan and Millicent (Waring) Gowan. He graduated from Athens High School in 1953. George married Beatrice L. Humphrey that same year and together they had 6 children. After his retirement from IBM George traveled the country in his RV with his wife Beatrice and their dogs. George was a lover of life and loved spending time with his beloved family and pets. Many of the people who knew George would say he was always telling jokes and always had a smile on his face.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Millicent Gowan, his brothers Alton (Bill) Gowan, Waldo Gowan and James Gowan, and his sisters Donna Sawyer, Naomi Leavenworth, and Janet O’Dell.

George is survived by his wife Beatrice L. (Humphrey) Gowan, his children William (Carol) Gowan, Bonnie Gowan, Sherry (Joe) Jamison, Deborah (Allan) West, George (Janet) Gowan Jr., and Wendy Gowan. His grandchildren Kelle Motsko, Jason Gowan, Jamie Gowan, Bryan Miller, Brenton Miller and Shannon Foote, Brandon Miller and Stephanie Miller, Kelsey Jamison, Joey Jamison, Nate West, Jessica (West) Shiposh and Brandon Shiposh, Stacy Wolcott, Mindy Wolcott, Ruby Wolcott, Sheena (Gowan) Harper, and Zachery Gowan. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Per George’s personal request there will be no funeral services.
