Robert Calvin Byrnes

Robert “Bob” Calvin Byrnes, age 78, passed away at home in Waverly, NY surrounded by his family on January 5, 2019, after a long struggle with cancer. Bob was born April 3, 1940, in Shreveport, LA to Robert & Effie (Cantrell) Byrnes and was raised in Center, Tx with his eldest sister Ann Byrnes Wallace who all have preceded him in death. He had a younger sister Pat Byrnes who died as an infant when he was only 3; however, he always held her in his heart and was looking forward to her seeing in heaven.

He worked retail in Texas, and that is how he met his wife Roberta Paul Byrnes, they were married and made their home in Waverly, NY on March 26, 1965. Bob worked drilling wells, retail and retired from the Guthrie Healthcare System. He had a big smile for everyone he saw and will be remembered by many Valley residents for that ray of sunshine he always gave. Bob’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, and enjoying classical music. He carried on the tradition of storytelling with his children and their friends.

Bob will be missed by his wife Roberta and their children Wanda Jean Byrnes-Knapp (Kurt) of Waverly and Robert F. Byrnes of Endicott, NY. Grandchildren Brent and Eric Knapp; Rebecca Bouwens, Cassidy, Robert, Joseph & Daniel Byrnes, and two great-grandchildren. Joe Cochi was also like a son to Bob. Brothers-in-law Robert Wallace of Texas, David (Carol) Paul, Ken Paul of the Valley; sisters-in-law Linda (Cliff) Doane and Pat Paul. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Frederick Paul and sisters-in-law Carol and Beverly Paul. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please donate to the Cancer Treatment Centers Of America or the Lourdes Hospice in Vestal, NY.
