Alfred L. Veleker

Alfred Liggett Veleker, 58, of Towanda, PA, passed away peacefully 

on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Robert Packer Hospital in

Sayre following a long period of declining health.  

     Al was the son of the late Wilma E. Haywood Veleker and the

late Thomas J. Veleker.  Al is survived by his four older brothers,

Thomas "Bob" (Catherine) and Gregory of Towanda, PA, Peter (Regina)

of San Diego, CA, and Henry (Lorinda) of Waupaca, WI, eight nieces

and nephews, several great-nephews, one great-niece, and several

lifelong friends including the two Dans, the two Daves and PJ.

     Al was born in Troy, PA on June 7, 1965.  He attended Towanda

High School.  Al joined the US Navy, serving on the USS Vancouver

and later attended college in Oregon.  Al loved travel and music, enjoying

ninety six Grateful Dead concerts, in addition to classical performances.

In recent years he returned to his lifelong home in South Towanda.

     In June 2023 the family gathered for a reunion and to celebrate Al's

birthday at Lake Akela in Sullivan County.  He enjoyed visiting with the

young folks and treasured the birthday card signed by everyone in

attendance.  There will be a celebration of life at a later date.  Al will

be remembered as a man of few words and as a gentle soul who

loved animals and the natural world.

     The family is being assisted by the Thomas Cremation and Funeral
