Carolyn McGuinness Obituary

Carolyn (Connie) N. McGuinness
Connie McGuinness, 92, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at her home in Athens. Born on
April 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clayton W.
and Elverta C. (Hunsicker) Mantz of Emmaus, Pennsylvania.

She was a member of the Emmaus Moravian Church.
Connie graduated from Emmaus High School in 1951 while
employed at the Emmaus Cab Company and was later employed at Air Products in
the accounting department. Connie worked throughout most of her adult life most
notably at Allison Clothing Company, ARA Food Service at Mack Trucks, and Kmart
on South 4th Street, Allentown, from which she retired after 22 years at age 65.
Connie continued to work part-time at Kmart in Sayre, Pennsylvania until the store
closed shortly before her 85th birthday.

Connie is pre-deceased by her husband James (Scotty) McGuinness (1931-1995), an
avid baseball and basketball fan, whose devotion to the sports had him coaching
many seasons of both in Mountainville Memorial’s Little League and basketball
programs. With three girls in tow, Connie attended many of her husband and son’s
games but was not satisfied that there were no such activities for girls. Never one to
wait for others to pick up the reins, in the late 60s Connie spearheaded, recruited
parents, and launched Mountainville’s Girls Kickball League that expanded in the
following years to include a city-wide league. In the succeeding years, she grew the
program to include girl’s winter workshops in dance, tumbling, and baton.

Connie is also pre-deceased by son, Scott Alan (1963-2017). Surviving children:
Robert Bruce, husband of Genevieve; Karen L., wife of Aaron H. Wilcoxson; Sandra
Jeanne Kipp; Barbara Ellen; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer McGuinness. Surviving
grandchildren: Joseph Marucci, Amanda Schaad, Bryan McGuinness, Connie Kipp,

Alexander Kipp, Sydney Wilcoxson, and Christopher McGuinness and seven great-
grandchildren.

Connie shared generously her love of her family, plants & gardening, knitting, and
reading with everyone around her.
