David “Jake” Marshall, 93, passed away at his home on Sunday February 2, 2025,
surrounded by his family. Jake was born in Sayre on September 10, 1931, the son of
William and Dorothy Hilliard Marshall.
Jake was a graduate of Sayre High School Class of 1951. After graduating, Jake, along
with five of his classmates and a friend joined the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1955
Jake went to work as an electrician at the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens up until his
retirement in 1993.
Jake was a lifetime member of the Church of the Redeemer where he served on the
vestry and as a junior warden. In the 1960’s, Jake coached small fry football, and little
league baseball. For several years he refereed High School Football. He was a lifetime
member of the Sayre Elks.
On November 19, 1955, he married his wife of 69 years, Phoebe Dickson Marshall.
Jake is survived by his wife Phoebe, daughters Mary “Sherry” (Joe) Gabauer, Virginia
“Ginger” (Shawn) Reap, son William “Joel” (Aimee) Marshall. Grandchildren, Jessica
(Joseph) Quinn, Gretchen (Tunde) Rae, Luke Rae, Carolyn (Tyler) Shipman,
Christopher Marshall, Jeremy Marshall. Great grandchildren, Tobias Quinn, Ian Watson,
Lincoln Watson, Wyatt Shipman, Brody Shipman and his special sister -in-law Dolly
Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.
Jake was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Kenneth and Richard Marshall, sisters
Virginia “Sis” Keegan, Fredericka Lynch and his special niece Sharon Keegan Kindig.
Graveside services, officiated by The Rev. Canon Melinda M. Artman Rector of The
Church of the Redeemer, will be held at Tioga Point Cemetery at 11:00 am February
7,2025.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sayre High School Redskin Club, 333
West Lockhart St. or Guthrie Hospice,421 Tomahawk Rd Towanda Pa. 18848.
Pallbearers will be Luke Rae, Christopher Marshall, Jeremy Marshall, Tobias Quinn, Ian
Watson, and Lincoln Watson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of The Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa.
