In Loving Memory of Donna M. Overdorff-Gordy
08/07/1937 – 11/27/2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Donna Overdorff-Gordy, who left this world peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Donna was a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity, whose selfless spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on August 7, 1937, in Sayre, PA, Donna grew up with a strong sense of compassion and a giving heart. She devoted her life to her family, friends, and her church, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. Her unwavering dedication to those she loved was a testament to her boundless heart and gentle soul.
Donna was the cornerstone of her family, a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She found joy in cooking, church activities, and spending time with her family and friends. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and love.
Her friends and family will remember her radiant smile, kind words, and how she could never say no when asked to help. She believed in the power of kindness and lived her life as a shining example of what it means to give selflessly.
She is survived by 3 children – Duane (Jill) Overdorff of Pine City, NY; Diane (Victor) Batista of Rotonda West, FL; Christine (Rodney Sheive) Barton of Ocala, FL; and Brother, Larry Johnston of Elmira Heights, NY. She is also survived by 2 nieces, Deborah (Gary) Novick of Elmira, NY, and Janet Freeman of Elmira, NY; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many longtime friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Donna was preceded in death by her first husband of 30 years, William Overdorff of Elmira, NY; her second husband of 8 years, Donald Gordy of Interlaken, NY; and Brother, John Davidson of Elmira, NY.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held from 5pm until 8pm on Monday, December 9, at the Cornerstone Church, 410 Danns Blvd, Horseheads, NY 14845.
Though we grieve her loss, we are comforted by the countless memories and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Rest in peace, Mom. We love you. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
