Frank T. Durizch, Sr., 89, of 604 Stevenson St, Sayre, PA, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Sayre Health Care Center.   He was born in Sayre, PA on February 17, 1936, to the late Alex and Mary (Novotny) Durizch.

“Frank the Tank” graduated from Sayre High School in 1955.    He was inducted into the Sayre Hall of Fame for his legendary football accomplishments.  His 4 years as #18 Mr. Inside fullback earned him All Valley First Team 1952, 1953,1954, and tons of classic football stories.  After high school he married twice and had 5 children.   He coached small fry football, worked at the Grand Union Warehouse, was a member of the Catholic War Vets (Ukrainian Club), and a member of the Elks Lodge.  After retiring, Frank enjoyed bartending at Hicky’s Valley House.

Frank was a dedicated New York Yankees fan.  In 2011 he had the privilege of attending the Yankees vs Cleveland Indians game at the new stadium.  During this event, he had the distinguished opportunity to meet Mickey Rivers and Joe Pepitone.   He also enjoyed the NY Giants, “Bird Watching”, western movies, going to the casino, and visiting with family, friends and caregivers.

He is survived by 4 children, son John (Nelle) Durizch, daughter Linda (Sam) Pugh, daughter Laurie (Mark) Twigg and son Frank (Lisa) T. Durizch, Jr. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra (Hoodak) Durizch, daughter Terry Durizch, father Alex Durizch, mother Mary (Novotny) Durizch, sisters Priscilla Chaffee, Delores Farr, Irene Hale and brother Joe Durizch.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Sayre Health Care Center and to Frank’s son in law Mark Twigg for being Frank’s health care advocate, caretaker, and friend.  “Let’s go Yankees”

Frank requested that there be no viewing or funeral.  His family will instead schedule a celebration of his life at a date and location to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of The Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa.
