Ilona J. (Horvath) Golden

Ilona J. Golden, 79, of Waverly, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

Ilona was born on July 20, 1939, to John and Irma Tacs Horvath, in Passaic, New Jersey.  Her family then moved to Lewis County, New York.  On May 11, 1956, she was joined in marriage to Ronald D. Golden and together they raised three sons in Lowville, New York.  Her husband went into pastoral ministry and they served with distinction at the following Upstate New York Nazarene churches: Ogdensburg, 1979-1981; Ithaca, 1981-1985 and Waverly, 1985-2005.  Even after retiring to their present home, they continued to assist many churches throughout the area.

Ilona will be deeply missed by her loving family: husband, Ronald; sons and daughters-in-law:  Stephen and Denise, Towanda, PA, Thomas and Janel, Waverly, NY, and Timothy and Tamara, Charlestown, NH; grandchildren: Jeremiah & Alexa, Burlington, VT, Naomi and Mikaela, Charlestown, NH, Sophie, Kaleb and Josiah, Waverly, NY.

Ilona was predeceased by her parents and her twin sisters, Irma and Julia. 

A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Sat., Jan. 19th, 2019, at the Church of the Nazarene, Owego, NY, Pastor Phil Nase officiating.  In keeping with the spirit of Ilona’s love for Christmas, the family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Center for an Open House, featuring some of the refreshments that she was famous for.  A Praise Gathering will follow in the sanctuary.
