Obituary

Jean Woodring Cocco, 92, passed away on July 19, 2023 after a long, full life,
filled with family and friends.

Born December 5, 1930, to Wallace & Catherine Woodring in Hawley,
Pennsylvania, Jean graduated from Hawley High School, and Mansfield University
with a degree in Education. Jean moved to “the Valley” with her college friend,
Ginger Yanuzzi, where she met the love of her life, John Cocco. John & Jean were
married on August 14, 1954, and raised their daughters, Cathy & Mary in Waverly.

Jean retired from the Waverly Central School district after her long and fulfilling
career as an educator in 1986, and spent her retirement years golfing, winning at
BINGO, and playing cards, as well as spending quality time with her family.  Jean
loved to travel, some of her favorite trips were to Myrtle Beach, SC with the Cocco
crew, and gambling trips with her close friends, Charlotte Wilcox & Patsy Volpe.
Jean was an animal lover all her life and is grateful to her grandchildren for taking
good care of her cat, Daisy.

Jean is predeceased by her parents, husband John, daughter Cathy Soprano; in-laws
Vito & Mary Cocco, favorite aunts Anna, Vi, and Angie; brothers-in-law Louis &
Ed Cocco, sister-in-law Betty Cocco, and niece Terri Pannone.
Jean is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Mary & Kevin Gosney, son-in-law
Bill Soprano; grandchildren Julie & Greg Borsz, John Gosney, Kelly Soprano,
Jeffrey & Kortnie Gosney, Jason Gosney, and Joe Soprano & Corissa; great-
grandchildren, Anna, Lukas, Nora, Charlotte, & her namesake, Josie Jean; her
sister-in-law Elizabeth Cocco; her nieces & nephews, David Pannone, Diane
Tymoski & Vic, Michael & Laurie Cocco, Lori & Brian Grow, Lisa & David
Robbins, Steve & Michelle Cocco, and Tom Cocco; as well as many, many great
nieces and nephews, and their children. In addition to her gambling buddies, Jean
had many close friends who she golfed, traveled, worked, and made many
memories with.

Jean’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Elderwood
At Waverly nursing facility, especially the North Unit, and Maria Landy for her
kindness.
