Joanne S. Alexander passed away peacefully on May 26 th , 2024, after a 4-year journey with
Alzheimer’s disease. Joanne maintained her dignity and grace throughout this journey, always
having a deep love of family and understanding the love and respect returned to her. Joanne
was a staple in the life of the entire extended family and will be missed by all who had the
pleasure to know her.
Joanne’s life began in North Tonawanda, NY, the 4 th child born on Feb. 3 rd ,
1936, to her parents Marion and Raymond Shepler. Joanne lived in N. Tonawanda until she met
and eventually married Thomas (Warren) Alexander on Jan 5th, 1956. Before Warren’s service
in the Air Force was complete, they welcomed their 1 st child, at Shreveport LA AF base, then
subsequently moved back to N. Tonawanda to continue to grow their family. After 3 more
additions to the family, a move to the state of Maine and then to New Hampshire, where the 5 th
addition joined the group, and the last move settled the family in Pennsylvania. Here is where
the roots were laid down, homes were built, lives were started, good times and bad were
experienced but it was always with family at the center.
Joanne immensely enjoyed her time with family, especially with holiday get-togethers, picnics
several times a summer and lots of family dinners. Joanne worked as a hostess at O’Brien’s
when children were grown, and grandchildren daycare “duties” were complete and quickly
became the mom to the group she worked with. Mom’s cooking was something to look forward
to, especially the “chowder” and legendary cabbage rolls, the holiday turkeys and hams but it
was the feeling of being home that she made us all feel that made it special. These qualities
along with the amazing life she created and shared with the entire family are what make this a
difficult time, but we are left with heartwarming thoughts of her and the greatest of memories.
Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Thomas Alexander in 2018 and her
youngest son Aaron Alexander in 1993.
Joanne is survived by her children, Peggy (Art) Schledorn, Sharon (Joseph) Baranyk, Steven
(Lisa) Alexander, Brent (Tonya) Alexander, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great,
great grandchild.
Graveside services performed by Thomas Funeral services will be held for immediate family on
Friday June 7 th at Tioga Point cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Joanne’s honor to Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of
