John Scott Cole died Sunday, November 17, 2024, with his loving wife Elaine by his side, after a long courageous battle with COPD. Born in Waverly, NY on January 25, 1962, he was the son of William Cole and Ruth Simpson (Moore).
John attended Waverly High School, later receiving his GED. John worked several jobs, including National Pipe of Vestal, NY and later Hancore of Waverly, NY. His interests included playing guitar, listening to Classic Rock and Blues, learning about history, and spending quality time with his family and friends. You could often find him at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee, listening to Bob Dylan, and giving his sons and their friends life advice and wisdom.
John is survived by his bride of 44 years, Elaine. Also surviving are his three sons, Scott (Hannah), Eric, and Bradley. Later in life John especially enjoyed being a grandfather to his pride and joy, his three Grandchildren Emma, Beatrix and Izaak. Also surviving are his brothers Ralph (Amanda), Carl, Craig, Ray, and Jim (Laura), as well as sisters Julie Lovell, and Susan Wheeler. He is also survived by his special nieces Holly Simpson, and Melissa Lovell as well as several other nieces, nephews, and his children's friends many of whom he treated like his own. Lastly, he is survived by his best friend James Platt, special friend Shelly Monchak as well as countless friends and their children and spouses.
John was predeceased by his Father William Cole, as well as his Mother Ruth Cole Simpson (Moore) and Stepfather Clinton Simpson, a sister Sally Plouse, and brothers, Dennis Cole, Jeff Cole, Claude Harper, William Cole, and Ken Simpson. He was also predeceased by his son's longtime girlfriend Meaghan Jarvis.
A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family around his birthday in 2025. His family would also like thank the Towanda Guthrie Hospice Team. The hospice team that took wonderful care of John during his final 3 months, for which his family will forever be grateful for the heartfelt care that they provided.
