John Louis Detrick passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital after a brief
illness.
John was the oldest son of Earl Detrick and Ruth (Kuykendall) Detrick. He was born on April 2, 1934 in
Sayre, PA. He attended Sayre Area High School. He served two tours in the Korean War as an Army
Medic.
Upon his discharge from the Army, John married his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Donna (Chacona)
Detrick. He was employed as a machinist at Ingersoll-Rand for nearly forty years. He was able to retire
at age 62. He and Donna took a cross-country trip and then spend their winters in Fort Meyers,
Florida where they made many friends and led an active social life. They were great partners in life.
In his early years, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. They spent many summers camping,
particularly at Brenchley’s Lake. Every summer,he and Donna took the kids on vacation from Maine to
Florida. Later, he took his grandchildren. John was a member of the Elks and the VFW.
John’s love was his family who all adored him. He was the patriarch and a voice of calm and reason. He
was selfless in his devotion to them.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna, three children, John
Detrick, Ruth Detrick Lefton (Ray), and Joseph Detrick. He will be missed by his siblings Doris Pica, Mary
Gigliotti (Thomas), and Nancy Goble.
He was predeceased by his brother Jimmy. He will also be missed
by his grandchildren Samantha Detrick, Leah Lefton, Max Lefton (Jenna), Nicholas Detrick, Elijah Detrick,
and Carter Detrick as well as great-grandchildren Lily and Nathan Brommer.
Funeral arrangements are private.
