Keith Royce Van Allen passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at
the age of 88. Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, on April 25, 1936, he was a
cherished husband, father, and grandfather.
Keith attended Sayre High School, where he was a standout lineman for the
Redskins football team. Following high school, he embarked on a career as
a machinist apprentice with the Lehigh Valley Railroad. His dedication to
service was further exemplified by his three-year tenure in the Army
Reserves. In 1961, Keith began a distinguished 35-year career with IBM in
Owego, New York. The following year, he married the love of his life, Sharon
A. Line, in a beautiful ceremony at St. James Church in Waverly. Following
his retirement, Keith worked for several years as an inspector for the US
Marshals Service.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sharon Van Allen; his
beloved children, Doug Van Allen, Dan (Leslie) Van Allen, Ann Van Allen,
Chris Van Allen, (Debbie); and his adored grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew,
Joseph, Kari, Sadie, and Lea. He is also survived by his brother, Windsor,
and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Keith was predeceased by
his parents and his sisters, Vasta and Rachel.
Keith’s passions included fishing, reading western novels, bowling, and
watching John Wayne movies. He was a dedicated grandfather, always
present at his grandchildren’s plays, dance recitals, and sporting events.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27, at 10:30 am at St.
James Cemetery on Elm Street in Waverly. Following the service, a
celebration of Keith’s life will take place at Yanuzzi’s in Sayre at noon. In
lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to any
local animal shelter.
