Maria Teresa Catarisano

Maria Teresa Catarisano, 96, of Waverly passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at Elderwood of Waverly. Maria was born on February 1, 1922 in Borgia, Italy.  Maria was the daughter of the late Leonardo Sacco and Teresa Scarfone Sacco.  On June 1st of 1955 she married Vincenzo Catarisano in Borgia, Italy.  Vincenzo predeceased Maria in December of 2016.

Maria was a loving wife, mother (in-law), grandmother (great), sister (in-law) and aunt. Maria operated her own seamstress business from her home for many years.  She had a great passion and excellence for sewing, cooking and gardening. Her greatest joy came from her devotion and commitment to her family and friends.  Maria continually gave unconditional love to her family and everyone that she welcomed into her home.  She will be greatly missed by all of us and her love and kindness will live on forever and warmly in our hearts.

Maria is survived by her sons, Francesco (Cathy) Catarisano of Canandaigua, NY, Leonardo Catarisano of Penfield, NY, and Vincenzo (Michele) Catarisano of Mendon, NY, daughter-in-law Nancy Catarisano of Fairport, NY.  Grandchildren Andrea (Kyle) Kebert of Fort Mill, SC, Alicia (Tim) Hadden of Farmington, NY, Danielle Catarisano of Atlanta, Ga., Aviana Catarisano of Fairport, NY, Vincenzo Catarisano of Brooklyn, NY and Julia Catarisano of Buffalo, NY.  Great granddaughters, Sophia and Clara Kebert of Fort Mill, SC.  She is also survived by sister-in-laws, Teresa Sacco of Waverly and Lina Catarisano of Sayre, Pa, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gioconda and Antonio Riccobene of France, very special nephew and niece, Leonard (Sharon) Sacco of Waverly as well as several other special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband of 61 years, Vincenzo, Maria was also predeceased by her loving brothers Giuseppe (Concetta) Sacco, Leonardo (Beatrice) Sacco, Salvatore (Giulia) Sacco, Santo (Vincenza) Sacco, Saverio Sacco and Rosario (Tomasine) Sacco, brother-in-law Dominic Catarisano and sister-in-laws Teresa Catarisano and Rosina Iannocari.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the memory care unit at Elderwood of Waverly for the wonderful compassion and care they gave Maria during her stay there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 8th at 12 PM at St. James Church ,503 Clark St.,Waverly, NY where Maria was a devoted parishioner for over 60 years.  The family will receive friends from 10:30AM -12PM at the church prior to the Mass.

Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Waverly, NY.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Elderwood Memory Care Unit at Elderwood of Waverly, 37 N. Chemung Street, Waverly, NY in Maria’s memory.
