Michael James Waters, Sr. (affectionately known as Big Mike) ,60, of Towanda, Pa.,and formerly of Elmira Ny, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday January 30th with his son Mike and daughter in law Kim by his side.
Michael was born in Elmira, Ny to the late James M. Waters and Mary Lou (Tunnicliff) Waters on February 7, 1963.
Mike worked for Cole Muffler when he was younger. After becoming permanently disabled he enjoyed helping whoever needed help. He spent many hours at his friend Larry Vail's shop in Chemung . After coming to live with his son and daughter in law he spent a lot of his time helping his son Mike working outside, cutting wood and tinkering on anything with wheels. He especially enjoyed going out in the semi with his son when he was feeling good. He greatly enjoyed visits from and sharing cookies with Kinsley (Peanut).
Michael is survived by his son Mike and wife Kim Waters, his sisters Audra Waters (Al VanSkiver) of Chemung Ny and Wendy Walker(Tim) of Apalachin, Ny. Also, his grandson Alex Waters (Kaitlyn Fish) (and their baby girl that has not arrived yet) of Elmira, Ny, his granddaughter Kenz Bostwick (Logan Brown) of Canton, Pa, his great granddaughter Kinsley Brown of Canton, Pa. and special friend Chuckie Martz at home. And several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by both parents: father James on 4/11/2010 and his mother Mary Lou on 2/22/2014. Also, a sister Mary (Mooch) Waters on 3/26/2022 and a brother Mark Waters on 10/23/2023.
No services are planned at this time. There will be a celebration of life planned and announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be made to a local private animal rescue in Michael's name.
