With deep love and remembrance, we share that Penny Houghtalen, 75, of Sayre, PA, joined the angels from Robert Packer Hospital on October 1, 2025. Penny was born in Rochester, New York, on April 10, 1950, to Dorothy Ogden.
Penny had a lifelong love of reading and found great joy in crocheting. Every new baby in the family was welcomed with one of her lovingly made crochet sets, a tradition that will be cherished and remembered.
She especially loved Christmas, with a special fondness for Christmas angels and nativity sets, which brought her joy and many loved ones were lucky enough to be gifted both from her.
Penny cherished her Irish heritage, especially enjoying the music of her favorite singer, Daniel O’Donnell.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Manley Houghtalen. Together they have four children: Shari Houghtalen of Rochester, NY, JoAnne Houghtalen Bradley of Sayre, PA, Manley Houghtalen of Harrisburg, PA, and Jeffrey (Danielle) Houghtalen of Waverly, NY, and of course her bonus canine son, Freddy, at home.
Penny loved being a grandmother. She has six grandchildren: Michelle (Nelson) Arlequin, Heather Rudgers, Jessica (Shawn) Red, Bradley (Iris) Rudgers, Hayden Houghtalen, and Kaylee (Camren) Eberhart. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren.
Penny is predeceased by her mother and beloved aunts.
Following her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Cremation is being entrusted to Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
