Sharon Line Van Allen, a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on October 24, 1936, in Waverly, New York, Sharon was a proud graduate of Waverly High School, Class of 1954. She earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Cortland State, beginning her career as a physical education teacher in Harrison and New Hartford, New York. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Keith Van Allen, in a beautiful ceremony at St. James Church in Waverly where Sharon was a lifelong parishioner.
After starting her family, Sharon returned to her alma mater, Waverly High School, where she worked for 22 years as a guidance office secretary. Following her retirement, she continued to serve her community for 14 years as a librarian at the Waverly Free Library.
Sharon was an avid card player, bowler, and jazz festival enthusiast. She cherished family camping trips in their camper and, above all, was a devoted grandmother. She was always front and center, cheering on her grandchildren at plays, dance recitals, and sporting events.
Sharon is survived by her children: Doug Van Allen, Dan (Leslie) Van Allen, Ann Van Allen, and Chris Van Allen. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Abigail, Andrew, Joseph, Kari, Sadie, and Lea, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Sharon was predeceased by her husband, Keith, her parents, Francis and Irma, and her sisters, June, Phyllis, and Doris.
A graveside service will be held at St. James Cemetery on Elm Street in Waverly on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of Sharon's life will follow at a time and location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Waverly Free Library or a local animal shelter.
