Sue A. Flynn, 82, of Sayre, PA., passed away at home with her loving husband
by her side, early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2024, following a lengthy
illness. She was born April 20, 1942, at Mills Hospital, Towanda, the
daughter of Helen and Paul McCracken, Jr.
She graduated from Towanda
Valley High School in 1960 and Mansfield University in 1992.
Sue married Thomas Flynn at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Athens, on
September 19, 1964, sharing their lives for over 59 ½ years. Together they
raised four children, Timothy (Mistie) Flynn, Valerie (Randy) Miller, Kevin
(Tanya) Flynn, and Sean Flynn. Their family includes 11 grandchildren -
special granddaughter Casey Miller, Kylia Martin, Madison (Shawn) Walker,
Stephanie (Kevin) Battista, Cody (Burgandy) Miller, Joel Miller, Abigail
Flynn, Emily Flynn, John-Thomas Flynn, Meghan Flynn, and Brady Flynn.
Great-Grandchildren – Mayson, Beckett, Bella, Charlotte, Brady, Jude,
Bryson, Scarlett and two on the way, as well as her beloved fur baby, Sadie.
For many years Sue was an accompanist for various organizations in the area
including the Fireman’s Minstrels, Lions Club, and the Elks Club. She was
the church organist for S.S Peter and Paul Church, Towanda for 25 years, and
was involved in the parish’s revision of music through Second Vatican
Council. Sue also played the organ at Epiphany Church for 3 years.
For many years Sue volunteered as an EMT for Towanda Ambulance
Association. Then in 1987 she enrolled in Mansfield University’s college of
nursing first class, earning her BSN degree in 1992 at age 50. Sue was a
nurse at both Robert Packer Hospital, as well as Towanda Memorial
Hospital. She retired from nursing in 2006. In addition to being an active
member of Epiphany Church, she was also an active member of the Sayre
BPOE Lodge, serving as secretary for 8 years, which she thoroughly enjoyed
until health no longer permitted.
For the last 7 years, Tom had been her
primary caregiver. As a devout sports fan, her spring and summer months
were consumed with watching her beloved NY Yankees, while fall and
winter months she always cheered on her Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to her immediate family, Sue is also survived by her brother,
Richard (Margaret) McCracken, sister Nancy Kintner, and brother-in-law
Paul Flynn, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, mother and father-in -law Paul and Agnes Flynn, Helen and Paul McCracken, Jr., special
aunts and uncles, Anthony and Margaret Lenox, Charles and Margaret
McCracken, and great-grandson Jackson Rhys Battista.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held, Wednesday, May 8 th at 10 AM at
Epiphany Church in Sayre. A time of visitation will be held at the church
between 9-9:45a.m., prior to the Mass. The internment will take place
immediately following the Mass at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens.
