Thomas Warren Alexander of Athens, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully with family by his side December 21, 2018 at Elderwood Nursing Home in Waverly, New York. A most extraordinary man, he was known for his compassion and for his willingness to help others in any way possible.Warren, as he was called by his family and friends, was born in North Tonawanda on September 21, 1933. He was the son of Frederick and Lavina Alexander.
In 1953, Warren enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Sampson Air Force Base, spending time in Japan, Okinawa, and many other destinations.On a visit home, he met the love of his life, the former Joanne Shepler, whom he married on January 7, 1956 in North Tonawanda with numerous family members involved, especially his brother and life-long best friend, Earl. Immediately after, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, which was his final station assignment before being honorably discharged.Soon after, Warren and Joanne began their family of five children, whom he enjoyed immensely his whole life. There was nothing more important to him than family. He also enjoyed reading, golfing, wood-working, and the Buffalo Bills.
Warren is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Joanne, with whom he would have celebrated his sixty-third wedding anniversary this January. He will be missed deeply by his children: Peggy (Art) Schledorn, Sharon (Joe) Baranyk, Steven (Lisa) Alexander, and Brent (Tonya) Alexander. He will also be cherished by his seven grandchildren: Carrie Desch, Jessica Sink, Joe Baranyk, Nathan Alexander, Nicholas Alexander, Sydney Bowman, and Noah Alexander. He leaves behind fifteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, all of whom were always in his heart. He is survived by his brother, Earl (Dot) Alexander, and his sister, Gail (Maurice) Guerette, as well as many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded by his youngest son, Aaron Thomas Alexander.
Please join his family as they celebrate his life at the Sayre Elks’ Club Banquet Hall Thursday, December 27, from 3-5PM. A private, family graveside service will be at a later date.
