Timothy (Tim) Shaw Obituary

Timothy Edward Shaw, well known Sayre resident, passed away in the arms of his loving wife and best friend of 32 years, Jennifer, on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA after a brief illness.

Tim was the youngest son of the late David F. “Dusty” Shaw Jr. and Helen Marie (Welch) Shaw. Their Little Firecracker entered the world on July 4, 1968 in Sayre, PA and the world was immediately a better and more exciting place!

Tim graduated from Epiphany Elementary School in 1982, and Sayre Area High School as a member of the Class of 1986. He loved the social aspect of school, especially lunch and recess, and was a member of the Epiphany Boys Basketball Team, and the dedicated manager to the Sayre Boys Basketball Team. During his school years, he was very active at Epiphany Church, as an altar server, and at the Sayre Little League as a member of the Shaw’s, Haggerty’s and All- Star Teams.

Following graduation, Tim continued working with his father and brothers in the operation of Shaw Brothers Sports and Fundraising Inc. and then become the sole owner of the family legacy business, Shaw Brothers Donkey Ball in 1991. He also worked for Rochester Coca Cola, Dandy Mini Marts, and later owned and operated 3 Scoops Ice Cream Truck. Tim spent the past 15 years as the beloved Security Supervisor at the RPH, where he took his job seriously for the safety and well-being of the patients, their families, and his coworkers. However, his most important and cherished job was being Dad to Patrick, Elizabeth, and Molly, as well as his loyal pups, Chip and Rusty.

He was well-known as a Sports Official for both PIAA and NYSPHSAA basketball, football, softball, volleyball, and baseball games. His most accomplished officiating moment was being chosen to umpire the PIAA Class 4A State Baseball Final in 2021, but he always welcomed the opportunity to officiate for any age or level of sporting event because he loved educating the youth in sports and inspiring them to do their best. He was thrilled to umpire and officiate with his Dad, brothers, nephews, and friends, but his greatest thrill was officiating with his favorite son, Patrick.

Tim’s motto was “take the trip, and make the memories, because you can always make more money.” He lived by this motto and his passion was travelling with his family anywhere and everywhere but especially to Notre Dame, MLB, NBA, NCAA and WNBA sporting events. He also loved chauffeuring his wife, children, and mother-in-law, Maggie, on two different trips across the US. There was not a place Tim couldn’t find and his itineraries always included the best eateries!

Tim is survived at home by his loving wife, Jennifer (Hessler) Shaw, three beautiful children, Patrick Joseph, Elizabeth Helen, and Molly Suzanne Shaw, favorite mother-in-law/partner in crime, Maggie Hessler, and his four-legged kids, Chip and Rusty. He will forever be missed by his siblings, Mary Helen Cochi, David F. Shaw, III (Kathy), Joe (Colleen), Mike (Beth), Jimmy (Sam), and Kevin (Karen) Shaw, Maureen Howland (Harry), and Margaret Barry (Joe); Brother in laws, Marc (Mary), Bill (Karen) and Matt (Mindy) Hessler. Cherished nieces and nephews, Megan Gilson, Kara Short, David IV, Justin, and Jordan Shaw, Ashley Dodge, Erica, Chelsea, John, Michael, and Christopher Shaw, Bridget Allen, Devin, Gabby, and Mary Kate Shaw, Katelyn Callanan, Brian Howland, Liam and Declan Barry, Chris, Sean, Connor, and Sarah Hessler, Janelle Dowd, Brendan and Emmett Gilson, David V, Ben, Hogan, Jack, Rune, Lily, Cam, Grayson, and Carter Shaw, Wyatt Schneider, Terry R. Perry, and Connor Callanan.

Tim was predeceased by his loving parents, Dusty and Helen, brother, John Mark, nieces, Suzanne Cochi and Peyton Shaw, nephew, Ryan Howland, father-in-law, Chuck Hessler, maternal grandparents, Eugene and Alice (Dunn) Welch, paternal grandparents, David Sr. and Margaret (O’Connor) Shaw, aunts and uncles, Jerry, Robert, James, John, and Gene Welch, Joseph Shaw, Margaret Graboski, and Sister Agnes Shaw, IHM.

Tim’s personality seemed larger than life, and no one could match the big smile, sense of humor, big heart, and huge hugs that he shared with all those he met. His dying wish was that all of us would be kind, pay it forward, be better, and keep the faith!

The family will welcome friends for a visitation on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Epiphany School Gymnasium from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..
